Frequently Asked Questions

How is Allergy Education Consulting organized?

Allergy Education Consulting is a private service corporation incorporated and based in Illinois.

How does the consulting take place?  Where does it take place?  What happens exactly?

Details are specified in the contract; however, Allergy Education Consulting schedules visits at the school multiple times over the course of one year.  Initial assessment includes, but is not limited to, review of the school’s food allergy policy and procedures, inspection of the cafeteria and its procedures, review of logistics (e.g. how/where EpiPen’s and other allergy medications are located and stored, etc.,), review of any prior reactions and outcomes – all are considered in the review.  All findings and recommendations are reviewed in person with key staff members.  Follow-up assessments and meetings are scheduled to monitor for effective change and implementation.  All findings and recommendations remain confidential and are never shared with other schools or school districts.

Who does the consulting?

Consultation is performed by J. Keith Lemmon, MD – a board-certified, diplomate of the American Board of Allergy & Immunology.  Dr. Lemmon has years of clinical medical experience as an allergy expert.  He has also worked separately as a medical advisory consultant to assist in review and implementation of allergy policy and procedure at other institutions (please see bio page for more information).

What if questions or problems develop during the course of the year (e.g. think of something between meetings)?

We approach this consultation as a team effort with your school.  We want to help.  We are there in person for assessments and meetings.  We are also available throughout the work week – if any questions come up, you can call or email the consultant directly!  We strive for a fluid interaction that effectively responds to your needs in a timely manner.

What happens at the end of the year-long contract?

At the close of a contract year, Allergy Education Consulting may, at its discretion, provide written certification that the school or school district successfully and effectively implements a comprehensive food allergy policy for its students.  The school or school district may wish to present this attestation to insurance underwriters at its discretion.

If the school desires, we can always extend the contract retainer to continue assisting with the food allergy policy and procedures.

Do you offer other additional services?

Allergy Education Consulting can provide expert teaching in-service on many topics, such as (but not limited to):  EpiPen training and certification; effects of food allergy on children’s behavior; training to identify food allergy signs and symptoms; management of food allergy in the classroom.  These services are fee-for-service charges in addition to the consultation fees.

Allergy Education Consulting can also assist your school or school district in obtaining a prescription for undesignated EpiPen(s), and make certain the proper staff criteria are in place for its use and the storage of this medication is in keeping with state statute.

What does consultation cost?

The fees for consultation are specified in the contract and vary depending on such factors as the number and size of schools, number of students, etc.,
